How the calculators work
What does an employee cost, what do you keep in net pay, how much holiday do you accrue and are you really self-employed as a freelancer? Fifteen clear calculators and a bogus self-employment check using the official 2026 amounts and percentages — with sources for every calculation.
Every calculator uses the official 2026 amounts and percentages: contribution rates from the Government Gazette (Staatscourant), payroll tax tables and tax credits from the Dutch Tax Administration (Belastingdienst), the minimum wage as of 1 July 2026 and the UWV maximum daily wage. Below each calculation you will find the values used and the sources, so you can check where a result comes from.
Employer? Employer costs gives the total employer costs per month and per year; for sickness and dismissal you can work out two years of continued pay and the transition payment. Employee? With Gross to net you see what you keep in net pay, with Holiday entitlement how many holiday hours you accrue, with Payout of holiday hours what you get for unused hours when you leave, with Working fewer hours how much net pay you lose working fewer hours, and you can check which transition payment or sick pay you are entitled to. You can also calculate overtime, your 13th month, the working-from-home allowance, the travel allowance and the cost of sickness absence here. Freelancer or client? Compare the cost of a freelancer with an employee and take the bogus self-employment check: it shows per factor why an assignment may resemble employment. Buying a home? With How much can I borrow? you see your maximum mortgage, alone or together, under the 2026 lending standards.
